Here's the video I made for our family reunion in Colorado. Every frame of it is true.

J.C. at 12,000 Feet

I took Trail Ridge Road from Grand Lake back to Denver. It's U.S. Highway 34 as it traverses Rocky Mountain National Park. It is the highest through paved highway in the United States. The sign says "Elevation 12,005 feet." For much of the trip you're driving above the timberline in alpine tundra. It's an excellent road, although I was a little shaky negotiating some of the hairpin turns that edged along the great beyond.

A Successful Reunion

We have wrapped up the Kain Family Reunion at Grand Lake, CO. A great time was had by all. We rode horses and played goofy golf. Everyone loved the video done by the Kains of Phoenix. Here are pictures of the "elders" and the whole gang.

Heading to the Reunion

Matt and I are off to Grand Lake, Colorado tomorrow for the Kain Family Reunion. Grand Lake is on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, so it will be much cooler than Phoenix. We may drive across the park on the Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved highway in the United States. Or we may be wimpy and take the freeway.

Scenes from the 2007 NJOVT, set to music from the 80s (no symbolism there; it was just the closest CD to the computer).

Memories of Nationals

Jessie and the rest of the Storm have returned to their summer routines after their volleyball adventures in Minneapolis. Here they are leaping across the Mississippi, thanks to Photoshop.

Volleyball Nationals, Day 4

The Storm concluded their tournament play with a victory over a team from Florida and a loss to a team from Iowa. Of course, the team from Iowa practices against cattle, so they're hard to beat. Now the Storm's highly successful season is finally over and they have returned to Phoenix.
See the brief slide show below.

Volleyball Nationals, Day 3

Happy 4th of July from the Mill City (Minneapolis)! Yesterday the Storm lost to teams from Maryland and California, but defeated a team from an unknown location (somewhere in the United States or its territories). Then they went to dinner and talked loudly. Here is Jessie spiking (with Courtney and Jordan at the ready), and the team being introduced before a match.

Volleyball Nationals, Day 3

The Storm defeated teams from Indiana and North Carolina, and lost to a very strong team from Santa Barbara, California. They ended up fourth in their pool, which is where they were ranked coming into the tournament. I don't really understand what that means, but that's what Amber said, and she's very credible. Our last match ended after 10pm, so the girls are sleeping late this morning. Here is Hayley serving.

Volleyball Nationals, Day 2

The Storm played two hard-fought matches Sunday, but lost both to teams from South Carolina and Minnesota. Both matches went to three games. Today the team spent the morning at the Mall of America, buying stuff they don't need. Jessie got together with her godfather Bob ,and J.C. and Bob had a good chat over dinner. Volleyball Nationals, Day 1

We are in Minneapolis for the National Junior Olympic Volleyball Tournament. Jessie and her team, the Arizona Storm, will play a team from South Carolina this afternoon. This morning the team went shopping on Nicollet Mall and Jessie bought several useless items, so thus far it's been a successful trip. Pictured is the team leaving the hotel to head for the downtown convention center, the site of the tournament.
